7 Ways to sabotage your Kanban Adoption – Erik van der Velde #xp2011

Here were the points I took from Erik’s lightening talk:
  1. Don’t do retrospectives
  2. Feed your system with stories that are too large (reduces flow, slow or no flow is an indication your stories are too big)
  3. Have no limits on the Kanban board
  4. Depend on external companies
  5. Feel responsible for only “our” column (throwing stuff over the wall)
  6. Suboptimization: focus on part of the chain (e.g. delivery is not a column on the kanban board, so the customers aren’t getting results. No clear idea of done)
  7. Stop at visualisation (improvements won’t happen)
