Career Progression Framework

If your company doesn’t already have a career progression framework, you can check out https://progression.fyi/ for some inspiration. Lots of organisations have published their frameworks on there.

As you make hires and create the expectations, as well as the interview form and questions, around a role, you should be able to link it to the framework.

In my experience you can enhance the framework by:

  • Provide examples of what this particular skill or behaviour could look like at different levels
  • Provide training examples for each level and use things like CoP’s to revisit
  • Provide paths and options to help someone feel they can stay here and grow

The career framework and the hiring process should work very closely together, with colleagues being able to gather examples of them demonstrating what’s required in the framework as a way to get a promotion, and the same examples being asked of new hires.
